First Citizens in Sugar and Energy 2010

Press Release June 15, 2010

Couva, which is known as the oldest sugar village in Trinidad, generated much of its prominence from its production of this major crop. To commemorate its historical involvement in the sugar industry, the Sugar & Energy Festival was founded by the Couva/Point Lisas Chamber of Commerce. The Sugar & Energy Festival celebrates its 14th year at Gilbert Park Grounds, California from 18th – 20th June, 2010.

First Citizens is the major sponsor of the Festival’s Golf Tournament which is scheduled for Saturday 19th June, 2010 at the Sevilla Club, Couva. As a corporate citizen, we became part of the Festival committee to encourage unity among the community through promoting sports and cultural talents while providing a forum for both local and regional tourism. Additionally, all proceeds from the tournament will go towards assisting with the construction of the Couva/Point Lisas Chamber of Commerce building.

Our commitment to this initiative was cemented on Tuesday 15th June at the cheque presentation held on the Sevilla Golf Course.
