Steps to Rebuild Haiti

Press Release February 01, 2010

Steps to Rebuild Haiti

Based on previous press releases and website updates, First Citizens is indeed honouring its commitment to assist with the rebuilding efforts for Haiti.

A total contribution of Three Hundred and Eighty Eight Thousand, One Hundred and Seven Dollars and Seventy One Cents ($388,107.71) was presented to representatives of United Way earlier this month. United Way was entrusted to manage the funds on the Group’s behalf.

The staff of the First Citizens Group (including CMMB) donated clothes and food stuff via an internal collection drive. The items collected were given primarily to the Salvation Army, YMCA and other organizations who were authorized as distribution centres and charged with the responsibility of ensuring that all the items got to its intended destination.

In addition to the contributions above, the First Citizens Group sought and received Board approval to allocate US $1Million (TT $6.3 Million) towards the effort to rebuild Haiti, exploring the following options:

  • Rebuild a School
  • Build an Orphanage
  • Build a Home for the Elderly
  • Provide full scholarships (quantity to be determined) for young Haitians

First Citizens remains committed to rebuilding Haiti and will continue the drive to positively impact the lives of families in Haiti.
