Gulf City Mall

Expansion of Retail Activity in South and Tobago

The original Gulf City Mall opened its doors in December 1981. The mall boasted 2 floors and full air conditioning, a mammoth success at the time. In October of 1994, however, the mall came under new management, Gulf City Limited, with new ideas and a vision of transformation.

In 2006, Gulf City Limited took a decision to upgrade and modernise Gulf City Mall. The upgrading of the complex meant constructing a new standalone building, an eight storey building to create additional leasable space, a multi-level car park and the general retrofit for the entire mall.

First Citizens recognized the vision of the mall owners and offered them a refinancing proposal for the company’s existing debt which resulted in more financial flexibility. Today, Gulf City Limited has over 200 tenants and approximately 525,000 square feet of leasable space, inclusive of the new Gulf City Mall and Tobago’s first ever premier shopping mall Lowlands Mall.
